The Law Office of Terri Wood maintains a small case-load to ensure close attention to each client’s needs. The office utilizes licensed private investigators with law enforcement background. All legal services are provided at an hourly rate, plus reimbursement for expenses. Ms. Wood’s hourly rates are lower than most criminal defense attorneys with equivalent experience because office overhead is kept low. Voicemail is utilized instead of a receptionist, and calls are returned by the attorney. If you want the highest quality legal services at very competitive rates, and don’t mind using the technology of voicemail to save your money, call now at (541) 484-4171.
Free Phone Consultation - Attorney Terri Wood does brief phone consultations of 15 minutes or less for prospective clients without charge. Ms. Wood uses the phone consultation to determine whether she should represent the prospective client, or should refer that person to a different lawyer who might better serve the client’s needs; to provide some very general legal information without giving legal advice; and to schedule an office consultation.
Reduced-rate Office Consultation - Office consultations are used primarily for Ms. Wood to meet the prospective client in person, discuss the case and the client’s concerns, provide limited legal advice and information, and to discuss attorney fees and costs for handling the matter. Ms. Wood also schedules office consultations with persons interested in hiring her to represent a close friend or relative who is in custody.
Initial office consultations with prospective clients usually take about one hour and are billed at a reduced hourly rate of $125, with payment due at the time of the consultation.
In-custody Client Consultation - Initial consultations with clients in custody can be arranged, but funds sufficient to cover attorney time, including travel and any related expenses, must be paid in advance. Reduced hourly rates are available for in-custody consultations.
It is never too early to hire a lawyer. People contacted by the police as suspects, or who otherwise learn they may be under criminal investigation, need counsel to protect their rights, communicate effectively on their behalf with the police and prosecutor, and commence defense investigation.
Attorney Terri Wood represents persons under investigation, material witnesses subpoenaed to grand jury, and persons arrested but not yet formally charged, as well as those who have cases already pending in court.
Hourly Rates - Ms. Wood's usual hourly rate for client representation is currently $275. Reduced hourly rates may be offered for time spent in travel outside the Eugene-Springfield area.
Retainers - Representation requires payment of a retainer fee in an amount usually determined at the initial consultation; those funds are held in a client trust account, and are earned as the work is performed. Unearned portions of the retainer are refundable, unless otherwise specified in the written fee agreement.
Credit Card Payments - The preferred method of payment is by check or cash. For clients unable to make payment by those means, several major credit cards may be accepted as a convenience to the client. A three percent (3%) convenience fee will be charged for all credit card payments.

All client representation, other than an initial consultation, is done under the terms and conditions of a written fee agreement.
